I once was just an ordinary wooden box that held tea...........

Now I am a beautiful jewelry box for a special little girl

Supplies you need:
-Acrylic Pain (I used Americana Paint on sale at Michaels. Colors: primary yello, Vivid Violet, Citron Green)

-Paint Brushes

-Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Spray Paint (I used Ivy Leaf color)

-Painter's Tape

-wooden box

1. I put tape on the areas that I did not want the spray paint not to go on. Take your time doing this and make sure you cover the area completely.

2. Go outside and have fun spray painting :) I let the box set out for 24 hours after I was done spray painting and even had to go back for some touch up.

3. I used different sizes brushes when I was doing the flowers. I put flowers on each side of the box. Try out what you want to draw on a blank sheet of paper before starting. I had fun doing this! I felt like a big kid painting and I loved it. What was great about the paint I used was that I was able to take a wet towel and wipe off any mistakes.

I'm giving this box to Chloe for her birthday so she can put her jewelry or any little special item she wants.

Behind the Scenes

I have to admit I am a blog stalker. I love reading and seeing what other bloggers are doing. It's a little bit of an obsession. But, I always wonder how they do it. They look so together. The kids look happy, dinner looks made every night at the same time, and they craft a million things a week. How do they do it??? How do they make time for family, household, and more importantly CRAFT!

This is definitely a challenge here at Mamma Tortilla's house. Sometimes in the middle of the day, the kids will do something or inspire me and I have to run to the computer and type. Well, 1% of the time it actually happens. Other times, its at night when I do most of my blogging or crafting. When I do blog or craft really quickly while the kids are awake, this is what I turn around to............

HAHA! gotta love kids! So the conclusion is no blogging, internet checking or crafting while kids are awake because family is first! I do have some ideas on how I can get a lot of crafting and blogging done. Do you have any suggestions? Would love to hear from other bloggers out there on how they multitask and get things done.

DIY Coasters

I had these plain black coasters in my living room that were one of the first things we bought when we got our first apartment. At the time they were cute now they are just boring. I decided that I should update them instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Loved how they turned out. They were super easy to make. All you need is:

*old coasters (even pieces of cardboard)

*fabric (great project for scraps)
*modge podge (found at your local craft store)
*brush
*scissors

Clutter Clutter Clutter

lutter! Before we had kids, I was a cleaning fanatic. There was no clutter in my house (ok maybe a drawer or two) and over the years it's become a little compulsive :) You would have hated to be my roommate in college (ok, I know that my college roommates are reading this and laughing because it's true). Now that we have a family, clutter has crept in my house and decides to stay every once in awhile. All of you mammas know, that the laundry piles up, there dirty dishes in the sink, bathrooms need to be clean, your kids spill something on your white carpet/couches, your drawers look like a tornado came through, and I can go on and on. Lately, not only is it hard to keep up with the daily house chores, I have noticed that we have accumulated CLUTTER! just stuff. pointless stuff.

Since my kids have been sick, Scott and I have been going through the house cleaning and getting rid of stuff. We just finished packing our car up and most of our clutter is on it's way to a donation center. WOW IT FELT SO GOOD TO GET RID OF STUFF! But there is so much left to do especially since there is a huge project underway.

Here at Mamma Tortilla's House, there is a huge renovation going on in my laundry room (my fresh laundry room!). My crafting area is being updated, modernized, organized, and becoming Mamma Tortilla's small oasis. I wasn't going to mention it but I'm getting really excited. It's going to be my creative studio!!!! So here is a sneak peak of where I sneak off to when I sew, blog, do laundry, and have complete zen!

Etsy Bitsy Monday

I dont know about anyone else but let me tell you Etsy is by far my favorite thing. I love "window" shopping. I sit back with a cup of green tea and just admire all the amazing things that people make. I'm so happy about this handmade movement. I think its great that more people are interested in buying things that are handmade instead of store bought!!. These are things that I saw today that I would love in my house. One of my short term goals is to have an etsy store and sell the things I make :) Thats what I am hoping that this blog becomes a craft/sewing blog.

So i think every monday I will put up some of my favorite etsy finds. Yeap it will be called Etsy Bitsy Monday :) too cute
